Course Description

Covered entities and business associates have access to information that is valuable. Both are required by law to protect this information to ensure that the information is kept confidential, the integrity is not impacted in any manner and is available for the delivery of health care services.

TMC’s HIPAA training program outlines key concepts included in both the Privacy and Security rules along with a description of the impact of Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) on the protection of patient health information. The impact of a breach of protected health information is far reaching and costly. Practical strategies are reviewed to ensure the protection of information and systems from inappropriate access, malware and human error.

Training options include a live presenter in your facility or via webinar. HIPAA training is also available through an interactive web-based program, which includes a posttest and a list of facility specific activities to validate comprehension of concepts.

At the end of this section the worker will:

  • Identify and discuss the basic tenants of the Privacy, Security and Breach Notification Rules.
  • Identify and discuss threats to the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of Protected Health Information.
  • Discuss reasonable safeguards to protect patient information.

Risk Analysis

Our Full-Service HIPAA clients will also receive assistance in completing a Risk Analysis which is a similar checklist for HIPAA compliance. This analysis is normally performed on the day of your staff training. The Risk Analysis will be performed by the TMC Consultant. This is a great opportunity for the officers to accompany the consultant and learn about potential compliance issues. The Risk Analysis will be performed during the HIPAA Officer training and the time necessary is dependent upon the size and complexity of the office.

HIPAA Privacy/Security Officer Webinar

This is a training webinar for both new and existing HIPAA Privacy/Security Officers. The webinar covers:

  • Use and disclosure of patient information
  • General privacy behaviors necessary to protect patient information
  • Inappropriate behaviors which may incur disciplinary action as outlined in the practice sanction policy
  • Compliance standards necessary to protect electronic health information
  • Policies and procedures relative to staff position and responsibilities
  • Identification of breach situations and the reporting process to impacted patients
