Here are 5 quick facts to know about measles.
- It is highly contagious. Individuals who are not immune have a 90% chance of becoming infected if they are close to someone with measles.
- The virus can live up to 2 hours in an airspace where an infected person coughed or sneezed.
- It can be spread when others breathe contaminated air or touch infected surfaces and then touch their eyes, nose, or mouth.
- If a susceptible worker is exposed to measles, a post-exposure vaccine should be administered within 72 hrs.
- The 1st dose of the vaccine is 93% effective, and the 2nd dose is 97%.
